2011 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ, an AW Drivers Log: Posted: 03 Jan 2011 06:53 AM PST
COPY EDITOR CYNTHIA L. OROSCO-WRIGHT: The Malibu was a fine car to have over the weekend. I like the sheetmetal on this car; it’s much better-looking than that on previous generations. Also, the car handled well both in the dry and in the mush and ice and snow and frozen mess on the Monday commute to the office. The Malibu felt strong at expressway speeds as we headed out to Michigan Stadium for the Big Chill hockey game. We quickly cut through traffic, and once in Ann Arbor, we were able to easily park the car among the masses of other cars (and people). Braking was solid, and the car felt planted without feeling overly heavy. The large trunk easily swallowed several blankets and some cold-weather gear with room to spare. After the game, we were very thankful for the seat burners and that the car heated up fairly quickly so that we could thaw out. I’m a fan of Chevys in general, and that applies to the Malibu as well. This is a good package, and while it might not have the panache of luxury brands, if you need/want a sedan of this size, the Malibu is worth a look. 2011 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ Base Price: $27,735 As-Tested Price: $27,835 Drivetrain: 2.4-liter I4; FWD, six-speed automatic Output: 169 hp @ 6,400 rpm, 160 lb-ft @ 4,500 rpm Curb Weight: 3,473 lb Fuel Economy (EPA/AW): 26/26.2 mpg Options: Compact spare tire ($100) |
